Here's strip 84 of Dude in Distress, and we learn the "origin" of Femme's sidelocks. (The significance of sidelocks was discussed back on strip 75, with discussion about Femme's sidelocks on strip 76.)
Survivors guilt is bad enough in the "normal" cases. When someone gets killed in the act of saving another person, that usually and rightfully has a great impact on the survivor. And this is even heavier, given that she had (reluctantly) just tried to kill him herself.
It makes you think not just twice but several times over just reading the story being told inside of a fictional story. Excellent.
